Everybody’s got to learn sometime

Quote: Learning never exhausts the mind – Leonardo Da Vinci

Everybody’s got to learn sometime, a powerful and emotional statement, but what is it that we need to learn?

All of us have our own learning journey, however if one is referring to recent world events I would be inclined to think that the lesson to be learned is accepting the reality that not everybody has peaceful plans like we do but after accepting that, what is the next step?

After hearing the devastating news on the invasion of Ukraine I started sharing immediately on social media, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Youtube, you name it. Sharing the sad stories but also the inspirational ones, however disturbingly through my scrolling I came across so many doomsday posts especially on facebook, such as the beginning of WW3, the effects of nuclear war with no real positive solutions just that if it happens just a single clear message “There is nothing you or I can do about it” .

This is also the same with Climate Change, as I live in Brisbane, Qld, Australia, you may have heard that we have more or less have experienced if not worse the 2011 floods again, I’m presuming these will be called the 2022 floods, were not that original with the dramas down here, down under to my international readers.

Me personally I was affected in the sense that my study for which I am typing this blog was inundated through a leaky windowsill and suffered the effects of a smelly carpet and smelly bleach, took a lot of airing out and similar story with my garage and I was cut off from my Full time job in the city, however no where near as damaging as lot of people in SEQ & Northern NSW have experienced and my heart goes out and of course will donate and help where I can.

Having seen the horrific scenes in Lismore NSW of people in tinnies(small Australian tin boat) was nothing that I have seen from Northern NSW before or can recall. However some people have said 1 in a 1000 year flood, well all I can say to that is that these 1 in a whatever’s seem to be happening more often than not…… there how is that for being subtle. Climate change in my firm opinion is definitely what is happening here, denying it, is STUPID…..BUT DOOMSDAY POSTING IS IGNORANT.

One might may say that Nuclear War will never happen, sadly from what I know of humans I no longer share that comfort, you will notice just recently Russia shelled a Nuclear power plant, its contained for now, but you have to ask yourself why?

What is the reasoning behind this, if you want Ukraine as part of Russia where is the intelligence in trying to blow up a Nuclear power plant, just invade the Ukraine like you are doing. Some people just don’t have empathy therefore don’t have reasoning, VP(Vladimir Putin) is in that category.

People have also posted that Climate Change is the end of the world and if we don’t do something now, its all over. I’m inclined to think we have already gone past that point judging from the many recent climate events we have had just here in Australia in the last 10 years.

We need solutions NOW! I don’t believe for one second that the world is going to blow up or that we face extinction, but we do need to ask ourselves in this current time, What are we going to do in the event of a NUCLEAR WAR and how are we going to handle CLIMATE CHANGE?

In the event of a Nuclear war we will have to try and survive the Nuclear winter, doing a lot of googling, the information I have found is that after several bombs have hit, the mushroom clouds will bring up 1M tonnes of debris(dirt matter) that will envelope the earth and block out the sun which of course generates life. Because there is so much dirt matter it will stay in the atmosphere for a certain amount of years, some say 10, some say 20.

Let’s unpack this doomsday scenario, humans have been breaking down dirt matter, such as pollution, even dirt on our clothes in our homes and businesses for years, we deal with dirt matter everyday. Obviously the solution is that we find a biological way to breakdown the huge amount of dirt matter that the nuclear winter is going to generate. I am convinced that with all the great advances we have made in the last 2 centruries we can find a way to achieve this. Its on a huge scale that’s true but we can do it! After this then concentrate on revitalising radioactive areas.

Climate change means more climate and environmental disasters than what we are used to, I can think of 3 things that would be needed, a National Insurance and economic payment system, Weather accurate prediction modelling along with a national communication setup and a National Emergency Response Service. Australia more or less has these things, but there certainly needs to be more emphasis and funding in these key areas and when you buy or rent a property you are given a risk assessment of what dangers you could face, there would be no such property that doesn’t have risks but at least as a resident you have the knowledge.

Sustainability and Protection

Quote: Protecting our environment and natural resources is necessary for both our planet and our economy. Sharice Davids

A sad reality is if we are to make our environment and economy sustainable, we will have to protect it. Since last update there have been some great examples in the Empathy Tweets of how we can protect our environment and economy by being more sustainable in our thinking.

The Climate council has put forward an economic proposal that can bring Australia into a trillon dollar economy which we can use to build our communities.

Sounds great don’t it, so why don’t we get in and do it, because it doesn’t suit the interest of old money and some people don’t have the empathy to look past their own nose, they have the pathetic romance of looking after themselves and putting themselves forward and some look at this as an heroic attribute, its simply selfishness disguised as an affirmation.

Control is the key, renewable energy and sustainable solutions put people in control, think about it without a power grid how can you control people or business unless you break into someone’s home and damage their power source and with having more than one power source brings competition into the marketplace.

In order for things such as renewable energy, sustainable devlopment to happen, we need to fix our political system first, so it is for the people’s needs. Currently govt is a cash grab for the highest bidder taking advantage of an old system that needs modernising.

If we can modernise our democrarcy systems this is a great way to protect our future and make it more sustainable, not only this but by empowering a marketplace that is sustainable thus creating a sustainable economy this in itself can help mould our govt democratic system.

Since last blog I have tweeted about Climate Change and petitions shouting for equality and social justice.

Why is it that everybody wants to rule the world?

Queen crown clipart. Free download transparent .PNG | Creazilla

Imagination rules the world – Napoleon Bonaparte

It would be fair to say that everybody believes their idea of solving a problem is the best idea or worst the only idea. I find when people seriously insist upon rule, they do so with an agenda in mind, sometimes this works out for the people, sometimes it doesn’t.

Since last update there have been new issues to discuss such as Myanmar, March 4 Justice and Climate change events. One of the tweets that received a mention in my Empathy tweets broadcast was regarding Myanmar, the dreadful atrocities that are occurring there, the reason I mention this is because it ain’t the first time this country has gone into Military rule, deeply troubling.

I often wonder how do people get locked into such a negative pattern of thinking, that they would act so aggressively and dismiss basic democracy and human rights. If you are on the positive side of the argument and you are willing navigate through to the win win solutions, I would say to you consider the agenda of your opponent, read that person, what are they all about? what are they getting out of this? There must be a pay off of some kind.

When you discover what that is you are half way there, the same logic also applies not just to developing countries but to 1st world countries such as Australia. Recently in Australia we had the March for Justice, a rally demonstrating the accountability of high office and protection in particular for female public servant workers in the Canberra bubble as it is called. Australia does not have an accountability office e.g Crime Commission or watchdog authority over Federal Politicians and there seriously needs to be one, what prompted this outrage was an Attorney general on rape accusations refusing to clear his name with an enquiry in order to maintain trust in office and another rape allegation in the parliament building along with some other less known offences. By having a federal authority responsible for oversight, there will be no need for protesting.

Sad as it is the message of Climate Change just doesn’t seem to be getting through, even though we have one dreadful climate event after another, the dreadful fires of 2020 and now the floods of 2021, there are still companies and governments dragging their feet on Climate Change. I guess the best thing we can do is use our imaginations for solutions and our perseverance to make them happen.

Do you follow the crowd?

Quote: “Never follow the crowd.”

Bernard Baruch

Sooner or later all of us make the choice to use our own wings, when is that time that we decide to make that move and not follow the crowd.

More importantly what prompts us to make that choice, my answer is nature itself, its important for nature to diversify itself, you will find that every living thing has its own uniqueness, there are similarities of course however no being is exactly the same, this is our own cue.

Having said that when it comes to our own values this would also be true, they can have their own uniqueness, our own version of empathy. Looking after the vulnerable is one of the most empathic activities one can do. The disabled are certainly vulnerable and require our empathy and care not our scrutiny, there is an active petition on change.org asking to stop NDIS from rolling out Independent Assessments Click here

Basic necessities such as clean air and water are given, however reading from Global Citizen’s website – “An estimated 844 million people around the world don’t have easy access to clean water. Roughly 80% of the world’s extreme poor live in rural areas where they often rely on the surrounding land for subsistence farming. Air pollution, meanwhile, disproportionately affects people in poverty.” Basic necessities aren’t so easy to come across for everybody, largely due to population growth and poor quick profit management, glad to see that Global citizen isn’t following the crowd, see their amazing work, click here

To present an example of somebody not following the crowd and exercising bravery and courage, have a read of 21-year-old photographer and refugee Yousif Al Shewaili’s blog – My Own Words: My Life in Moria Refugee Camp Click here

Are you on the right track?

Quote: “The best way to find out whether you’re on the right path? Stop looking at the path.”

Marcus Buckingham

Despite all the misery in the world its good to know that there are people who make tracks, the best ones. From the Global citizen website: This year due to COVID-19, 50 million children worldwide missed their essential vaccination against polio — a horrific and highly contagious disease that leaves children paralyzed. Resources had to be redirected away from these vulnerable kids in 52 countries as medical staff and volunteers supported the pandemic response.

One could look at a situation such as this and feel a sense of helplessness, instead the Global Citizen says we can be the generation that ends polio. They aim to do this by calling on world leaders to end polio with a huge international petition. Click here

What difference can an hour make? A lot according to the Australian Conservation Foundation, through its Planet A Action hour, after all there is no Planet B. Empathy builds advocacy, when you get a group of people together for a good cause, the impact is significant, especially when a group signs a petition together, calls or visits their local member etc. When you have a group of connected individuals, you can then be certain of being on the right track. The solar farm will generate enough renewable energy for Singapore and Darwin by 2026 and help build remote indigenous communities. Lastly sticking to theme of this update’s blog “Are you on the right track?” Global Citizen certainly was when it came to campaigning to end global hunger during COVID 19, with a worldwide Online house party and signing an international petition, pretty wow, check out the 11 hour Youtube video here

Are you doing what makes you happy?

Happy Man

“Until you are happy with who you are, you will never be happy because of what you have.” Zig Ziglar

Since last update Australia has descended into panic to the point of purchasing ridiculous amounts toilet paper(insert eye roll here).

Due to the Covid19 people have become anxious, this pandemic is bad no doubt, however panic and worry never achieved much. As humans we like to think we are in control, I often think of control as an illusion, the reality is you don’t know what’s going to happen next be it good or bad, the only thing you can count on is your reaction to it. “persistence is omnipotent” is one of my favourite mottos. One thing I think is important is to always do what makes you happy regardless of circumstance, so in this blog I ask “Are you doing what makes you happy?”

With the panic, unfortunately the ugliness of human behaviour surfaces with racism towards the Chinese and refusing to visit Chinese shops or Asian eateries. To combat this craziness Get Up started a new power campaign #Iwilleatwithyou click here

People refusing to surrender to panic and misinformation doing what they normally do or what makes them happy.

Another example of doing what makes you happy, the annual Sydney Mardi Gras for LGTBQIA, thousands attended just like they do every year with big names in music and the most prominent float being the firefighters, check out all the fun here

What is your intention?

Intentions

“Our intention creates our reality” Wayne Dyer

When we tweet and social media share regarding the Climate emergency, what is our intention? That is question I am pondering for this blog, is our intention for government to change or improve its policies, or for deniers to see the light or perhaps should it be our intention to start coming up with solutions. I came across a tweet of a Japanese town called Kamikatsu which was burning its waste, its goal was to have zero waste by 2020 using sustainable methods they achieved 80% of their goal, now they educate world summits on how they got to their success. Click here

Intention creates our reality and it is only when we have good intention that we can create a better reality. Even though your intentions maybe clear, that doesn’t mean other people’s intentions are, for example a wealthy company that refuses to pay its employees, usually it’s because they have found a loophole or a situation that looks ambiguous and confusing for example a business you operated but has a different name to your main business goes bankrupt, then you state you have nothing to do with the business because it would be pretty difficult for the layman to find out . Such otherwise as what happened with these workers who are owed 4.5 million dollars in wages, click here

Solutions and progress are everywhere from a renewable energy national transition plan that creates jobs and opportunities such as an eco-friendly bike can peddle on water. Click here

The empathy of others- other’s negative perceptions or views does not dictate our destiny

Empathy of others

All our knowledge has its origins in our perceptions. ” Leonardo da Vinci”

How we view the world is out perception of reality, the importance of Climate Change is a good example, currently Australia is experiencing one of the worst droughts and bushfire seasons and Summer has only just started, weather records have been broken along with catastrophic events.

To write up the last blog for 2019, I went through my Weekend Empathy tweets and I found a petition I signed asking for the Prime Minister to honour a meeting with Firefighters which was scheduled before these summer climate change events occurred but unfortunately the meeting never happened.

What kind of society or democracy do we live in when need to petition a leader to do something so basic, so much an ordinary part of leaders role is to meet with community groups, service workers etc to obtain feedback and develop policy, OBVIOUSLY this is the role of a leader. But here we are signing petitions to say, please do your job that my taxes pay you to do. Click Here

Nonetheless the Firefighters gained a national audience and political pressure was applied and the support damaged the govt into action. This an example where another’s negative perception does not dictate our own destiny. Well done to these brave Firefighters who I am sure do not have much political experience.

Christmas is here and gift giving is happening. Another great example of how negative perception doesn’t dictate our own destiny is these amazing people from Ten Thousand Villages, a group of people building and creating sustainable gifts, focusing on gifts that are eco-friendly only and at the same time building developing communities. So much trauma. Who is Next?

Image result for Civilians in war

Trauma is an extremely distressing experience that causes severe emotional shock and may have long-lasting psychological effects.

Incarcerated Youth: Looking at that definition I can’t think of a greater trauma that can be inflicted than incarcerating children, recently the Australian Indigenous Community had to go to the United Nations and argue for a basic human right that a child under the age of 14 not be incarcerated click here. What kind of community do we become when we fail at providing basic services for troubled youth and one needs to do a shout out on social media or worse still visit the United Nations and present a case for Human Rights violation.

War: The whole purpose of war is to create “chaos and confusion” which is great for any political strategist who has something to hide. In that chaos and confusion of course comes violence and trauma, where the most vulnerable are confused in the chaos and taken advantage off such as refugees, recently I signed the Amnesty Australia petition calling for justice and support for Rohingya women who have experienced sexual violence at the hands of the Myanmar military. You can do the same, click here

Climate Change: Imagine losing your home in moments, Climate Change affects millions of people around the world. Queensland, Australia is not unfamiliar with bushfires, especially during bushfire season(Summer), however an unprecedented bushfire so huge causing catastrophic damage in Spring isn’t really on one’s radar, which is exactly what happened recently in South East Qld. See Tweet

Like I said previously Australia is not unfamiliar with bushfires nor are we unfamiliar with droughts , however the severity and the regular occurrence of them is something that farmers need to face and govt assistance will be essential, as families who are bound by property mortgages and stuck in poverty until it rains, a drought strategy dealing with climate change so farmers aren’t killing livestock and going in debt to pay for water or food. See Tweet

Refugees and Immigration: I can’t begin to imagine what it would be like to be forced to leave your own country that you have lived in all your life, you know the customs and the language, however because you heritage is elsewhere and you a have a certain medical condition that can easily be treated but serves as a great legal loophole for an immigration dept to deport you for political reasons definitely passes as trauma. An outdated, and now amended rule stopped regional workers with Hepatitis B from applying for permanent residence. Which of course one doesn’t always know when they obtain these diseases but apparently common sense and empathy is too much to ask. See Tweet

Do we need to create a New Democracy?

Democracy Feature

The answer to this question, would be YES and URGENTLY. Take into consideration the current political agenda, Climate Change, growing inequality, corrupt lobbying, govt bullying and thieving from its population.

Recently I sent a tweet asking Twitter and Pauline Hanson(Australian Senator) to remove a violent video tweet of a taxpayer funded senator waving a Cattle Prod and suggesting that the Qld Police use this weapon like object on Climate Change Protestors in Brisbane who are rightfully protesting against the unnecessary Adani Coal Mine(click here).

Putting aside the logic of no new coal mines, only renewable projects for domestic or export use is the only acceptable policy in the 21st Century. What concerns me the most is that a Senator feels its her role to threaten members of the public she disagrees with either for political point scoring or TV time, instead of reviewing legislation sent from the House of Representatives which is what every senator is paid to do under the constitution. For the record Twitter removed the tweet, thank you Twitter.

While on the subject of renewable energy and of course Climate Change, no doubt you have heard of the Amazon Fires, this is a good example of an ignorant lobbying interest in the face of global warming, the interest of land clearing and development taking a higher priority than the welfare of the world’s largest rainforest or more commonly known as the worlds lungs, you can sign the petition here.

Witness K is the whistle-blower who released information regarding a past Australian Government misusing ASIO powers to spy on another nation, Timor Leste, in order to obtain an advantage in negotiations. Witness K is now being charged for misusing govt information for the release which of course isn’t in the spirit of the law’s intention. Sign the petition of support, click here.

The horror and sad stories regarding Robodebt or should be just simply be called corrupt political govt fraud. The purpose behind Robodebt has been proven as a means for the govt to achieve surplus and doing it on the back of society’s most vulnerable, the recovery system works on a comparison of your yearly earnings to pension amount claimed against a certain period, as person’s income can change throughout the year, the yearly calculation is irrelevant and is regularly proven wrong and is not legally workable with many cases that are taken to court fail. As a result of this programme, many young people on Homeless Youth Allowance, Newstart and Disability have committed suicide, living on the streets or sacrificing a daily meal for them and their family. Check out the great work Get up is doing with FraudStop click here.

Taking the last paragraphs into consideration, I would be inclined to say these are very relevant arguments for a new transparent democracy is definitely needed. Social Media and Internet is the most powerful people tool created in history, it is time for a discussion on how we can use this magnificent tool as a fairer population management tool.
