Are they exhausting us? The working poor delirium.

Quote: It is our best work that God wants, not the dregs of our exhaustion. I think he must prefer quality to quantity.

George MacDonald

Do you get the feeling of mental exhaustion or being used? Well, you should, because most likely you are. On the entrance to Auschwitz, was a steel sign “Work sets you free” as the Jews entered, they entered in a state of delirium.

Slavery and exploitation are one of the most common crimes in the world and always been sadly. However, is this happening in our modern western culture? If you’re like me and have been a worker and taxpayer for some time, for example a Gen X, you may have noticed a lot of extra challenges have appeared before us than our previous generations.

A lot of this is due to the misperception of wealth obtainment, that if you don’t work, your lazy, a lot of psychology terms are thrown around such as demotivation, not following your dreams, do what you love to succeed.

The reality is that not all of us do what we love but learn to love what we do in order reach our goals, if that isn’t stressful enough, we also pay for our principal place of residence, or some would call it a home at a level that is unprecedented.

Without sliding too much off topic , I have quite deliberately over the years chosen not to invest in property for the very simple reason, I don’t invest in something I don’t trust, just the other day I went to an Ezy mart and went to buy a snickers bar, I decided not to buy it, it looked funny to me the wrapping looked worn and faded, as it had been sitting in the sun for ages, as it turns out it was, the used by date was about 4 months ago.

Property is no different, if the price isn’t right and doesn’t suit your budget or means or the place looks dodgy, and you can’t work with it……. don’t buy it, just like the snickers bar. A purchase is a purchase.

I’m so glad for the choices I have made that I didn’t invest in property but instead saved for retirement and rainy days. Its always good to have cash as your asset, especially in the digital age as your investment value is easily tracked, proven and the govt has a guarantee on it, you will always need income. I learnt this from business studies, however when I speak to execs they always shout property, must have property, I shrug my shoulders, property like anything else goes up and down in value and of course the debt that comes with paying for it, I shudder to think the debt I would be in if I surrendered my position, having said that though, that in itself didn’t come without sacrifices.

What I have observed over the years is the rise of capitalist tax incentives that only support corporations and a higher income bracket, a classic example in Australia would be negative gearing, the whole purpose of NG is to genuinely assist landlords so they can keep land lording and being real businesspeople, not as a tax break investment, as a result of NG being used as a tax break, we have whole heap of investment property owners who aren’t real businesspeople with business and people knowledge and empty properties.

As I work in Brisbane city and walk along the main streets and the rise in homeless people amongst the CBD main streets has risen dramatically over the years, I remember as a kid visiting Brisbane regularly and I can’t remember ever seeing homeless people in the eighties or nineties. As a result of this we are working harder than ever, the only positive is we have the tech to deal with it, AI will prove to be very interesting.

It’s time we started rewarding people who are willing to help communities grow, solve community problems in the form of business and growth grants and payments for individuals not just tax breaks for those who clearly don’t need it, but politicians need donations. What we are seeing today is an ideology of people who are not entrepreneurial in any way but are simply looking for a quick financial fix and go around pretending that they have worked so hard and somehow a business genius.

Having a working poor population who is working their ass off and can’t pay for the basics such as rent, food and utilities is called SLAVERY. Slaves of course suffer from malnutrition, dehydration and of course create great and amazing things from road networks, the White House in Washington and the great pyramids of Egypt.

Working poor or Slavery is what is happening today, right now, we are dehydrating ourselves with slow wage growth not keeping up with cost of living and living in a home. In this dehydration comes our delirium, we need to hydrate ourselves, and demand a better future that embraces the new technology and rewards people who make the effort for our community and with the same hand help the most vulnerable. Our delirium must end, for it is in our delirium when the predator strikes.

Did you know that you have a higher power?

Quote: No one has proof that I know of, that a higher power exists, yet a major portion of the world believes in it and relies on it in faith in trust, in what that is. Where is the science in that? And yet you have incredible belief in that.

Sandra Bullock

What is our higher power? Good question, when we think of a higher power we tend to believe in a power higher than ourselves, I’m inclined to believe that our higher power is when we choose to focus on what’s happening and do what’s needed as opposed to what is it that I am feeling.

Feelings are fine and it’s important to acknowledge them, however at the end of the day it’s important to focus on what we want to achieve and what are the long term benefits of that not only for ourselves but others.

When we enter a world of feelings only we then enter a world of tribalism, where it is more important to ask who is your tribe and how does that tribe make me feel as opposed to what they stand for, for example a westerner may find a half naked Amazonian or African tribe confronting but they may offer solutions to agriculture and climate change and this is where we need to look past our feelings.

Politics can be very tribal and judgemental and it’s important to realise that all of the issues we are facing a more than a feeling and we have higher power within ourselves, some examples where people have looked past feeling and moved forward with great solutions would be the great green wall of Africa and hemp and other natural resources replacing plastics, so many solutions but so little discussion on them in mainstream media.

I think now more than ever we need to start looking at ideas that build a community for everyone and match the need not only the want. Remember there is not enough room in the universe for all of our thoughts and ideas.

Respect Boundaries and the empathy we deserve.

Do you find that we are losing more and more of boundaries or autonomy? Covid hasn’t exactly helped the situation, but as people become more push & shove in their everyday life we lose what Aretha Franklin sang for RESPECT. Aretha was mainly reffering to respect for women, now I find the song is needed as respect for everybody.

People are definitely being used, I justify this by observing how we are continuously being given instruction. Unemployment is at its lowest, so this must mean you should be employed, be brilliant at your job, companies are working very hard to keep you so you should be GRATEFUL!

Sadly this perception doesn’t reflect reality, I have always found in my twenty years or so working in corporations, people who use people are not innovative people, thats why they use people, there only talent is manipulating others.

As a result we miss out on innovating ideas that help all of us prosper instead of just running to the starting gun of leftover 20th century corporate culture, making people feel guilty instead of empowered.

Look at the old rich! How did they become rich? Bet you anything they would have USED people in order to get there, same in politics as well, I don’t belive I need to give any examples regarding politics, the 6’oclock news gives plenty.

We need to fight for a sustainable economy for all us which I talked about in my last blog, however how we fight this by coming up with great ideas that respect people’s boundaries and allow their autonomy and not mess with their minds but allow their creative juices to flow and using the power of empathy, after all thats where all the best ideas come from.

In closing, good examples of respecting boundaries, is understanding that your industry isn’t the only industry, respect the fact that Indigenous people had the land first and if they want to use it for tourism(billion dollar industry) or for sacred reasons etc, they can, just because it doesn’t suit your mining interest, respect boundaries.

Another example is protecting our Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. The Great barrier reef is the largest living organism on earth, key word being living, yes tourism is important but so is the right to exist. Nature has just as much right to be here as humans do and again this boundary needs to be respected and if not respected will be fought for and hard.

Sustainability and Protection

Quote: Protecting our environment and natural resources is necessary for both our planet and our economy. Sharice Davids

A sad reality is if we are to make our environment and economy sustainable, we will have to protect it. Since last update there have been some great examples in the Empathy Tweets of how we can protect our environment and economy by being more sustainable in our thinking.

The Climate council has put forward an economic proposal that can bring Australia into a trillon dollar economy which we can use to build our communities.

Sounds great don’t it, so why don’t we get in and do it, because it doesn’t suit the interest of old money and some people don’t have the empathy to look past their own nose, they have the pathetic romance of looking after themselves and putting themselves forward and some look at this as an heroic attribute, its simply selfishness disguised as an affirmation.

Control is the key, renewable energy and sustainable solutions put people in control, think about it without a power grid how can you control people or business unless you break into someone’s home and damage their power source and with having more than one power source brings competition into the marketplace.

In order for things such as renewable energy, sustainable devlopment to happen, we need to fix our political system first, so it is for the people’s needs. Currently govt is a cash grab for the highest bidder taking advantage of an old system that needs modernising.

If we can modernise our democrarcy systems this is a great way to protect our future and make it more sustainable, not only this but by empowering a marketplace that is sustainable thus creating a sustainable economy this in itself can help mould our govt democratic system.

Since last blog I have tweeted about Climate Change and petitions shouting for equality and social justice.

Are you still growing?

Personal Growth

“My personal growth stems from the humility with which I navigate the world, namely with a reverence for all of the knowledge that I’ve yet to learn but that is out there available to me.”  Gad Saad

Another good quote regarding personal growth is that we need adversity to achieve personal growth. Recover, rebuild and renew is the mantra of Australian Conservation Foundation Report on Australia’s Economic Recovery.

In 2020 we have experienced unprecedented climate disruption with a holiday season of devastating bushfires that wiped out towns, forests and wildlife. Next a global health pandemic that stopped the world in its tracks and now an unprecedented economic crisis.

The report makes some key recommendations such as.
• Create tens of thousands of jobs that are good for
nature and our climate
• Renew our energy system
• Make our nation fairer

By making our nation fairer, empathy builds advocacy, the more people involved in the recovery plan the better and the more Australia grows for the better. You can see the plan here. Click here

Invasion Day

How can we make Australia fairer? A step to take, that is closer to fairness and personal growth is inclusion. By closing the gap of inequality with an attitude of opportunity for all, key gaps that need to be improved are indigenous wealth inequality, lowering incarceration rates and deaths in custody.

Are you doing what makes you happy?

Happy Man

“Until you are happy with who you are, you will never be happy because of what you have.” Zig Ziglar

Since last update Australia has descended into panic to the point of purchasing ridiculous amounts toilet paper(insert eye roll here).

Due to the Covid19 people have become anxious, this pandemic is bad no doubt, however panic and worry never achieved much. As humans we like to think we are in control, I often think of control as an illusion, the reality is you don’t know what’s going to happen next be it good or bad, the only thing you can count on is your reaction to it. “persistence is omnipotent” is one of my favourite mottos. One thing I think is important is to always do what makes you happy regardless of circumstance, so in this blog I ask “Are you doing what makes you happy?”

With the panic, unfortunately the ugliness of human behaviour surfaces with racism towards the Chinese and refusing to visit Chinese shops or Asian eateries. To combat this craziness Get Up started a new power campaign #Iwilleatwithyou click here

People refusing to surrender to panic and misinformation doing what they normally do or what makes them happy.

Another example of doing what makes you happy, the annual Sydney Mardi Gras for LGTBQIA, thousands attended just like they do every year with big names in music and the most prominent float being the firefighters, check out all the fun here

The empathy of others- other’s negative perceptions or views does not dictate our destiny

Empathy of others

All our knowledge has its origins in our perceptions. ” Leonardo da Vinci”

How we view the world is out perception of reality, the importance of Climate Change is a good example, currently Australia is experiencing one of the worst droughts and bushfire seasons and Summer has only just started, weather records have been broken along with catastrophic events.

To write up the last blog for 2019, I went through my Weekend Empathy tweets and I found a petition I signed asking for the Prime Minister to honour a meeting with Firefighters which was scheduled before these summer climate change events occurred but unfortunately the meeting never happened.

What kind of society or democracy do we live in when need to petition a leader to do something so basic, so much an ordinary part of leaders role is to meet with community groups, service workers etc to obtain feedback and develop policy, OBVIOUSLY this is the role of a leader. But here we are signing petitions to say, please do your job that my taxes pay you to do. Click Here

Nonetheless the Firefighters gained a national audience and political pressure was applied and the support damaged the govt into action. This an example where another’s negative perception does not dictate our own destiny. Well done to these brave Firefighters who I am sure do not have much political experience.

Christmas is here and gift giving is happening. Another great example of how negative perception doesn’t dictate our own destiny is these amazing people from Ten Thousand Villages, a group of people building and creating sustainable gifts, focusing on gifts that are eco-friendly only and at the same time building developing communities. Time to Listen

Image result for Listening"

Ghandi once said “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”

One of the sincerest forms of respect is listening to what another has to say. For those who lack empathy, their greatest strength is the ability to ignore others whose interest doesn’t match their own.

For those of us who have the empathy our greatest strengths is listening not just to our interests but the thoughts and feelings of others and then then support grows. The recent press raids are an example of that, the hashtag Press Freedom trended to a point the Federal Govt had to backpedal on its ABC raids and the story they wanted silenced became known (Australian Defence Force war crime in Afghanistan). In my experience, not a lot of people enjoy conflict or change, however this is the very thing that those with a corrupt interest bank on, that truth tellers are being extreme or just plain troublemakers, so a great way to combat that is to tell the truth in a logical and calm manner, works every time. Click here

Mental health especially among men is a tricky political topic. Men are either seen as a Hero, Villain, Winner or Loser, of course the reality is men can be any of these things at any given time, however this political perception is very dangerous, if man comes across trauma(abuse, mental illness etc), resources are very limited and they should at least be risen to adequate. Unfortunately, the social political tide thanks to Mr Trump means there is not much political will in Men’s Health/Mental Health and there is a rise in hate groups such as INCELS all run by Men. If the tide is to turn, we need to focus on Men’s Health in combination with every other social justice issue. Click here

Another area that requires listening is the combination of Human Rights and Economic interest. Australia’s business leaders feel Australia can’t survive without China, I’m inclined to think that both economies can work together well, its all about the old-fashioned give and take. In China, Uyghur people are being rounded up and forced into internment camps, some of these people hold Australian passports. We have just as much to offer China to help with their growing population issues and their rising social class, so there is a lot to negotiate and discuss regarding expectations of civility and economic benefit, all about seeing opportunity, Click here

For years the Australian Indigenous community have fought for Uluru, everything from name change (Ayres Rock) to banning the climb, as Uluru is a sacred site and one doesn’t want to be climbing all over a sacred site nor be incorrectly named. A sweet victory when the ban came into effect, hopefully one day people who wanted to climb it will learn to appreciate the fact, it’s a monolith and not supposed to be climbed, not only is this dangerous and disrespectful but the whole purpose of a visit is to appreciate its beauty and natural wonder like when it changes colour at sunset and the waterfalls when it rains, you can’t see these things by climbing all over it, it’s a rock, pays to listen. Who is in control of our empathy?

people-holding-hands

Our empathy is always our own to administer, however do we use our empathy to convince those who cause huge amounts of pain, such as families escaping poverty due to inequality, war or Climate Change to change their ways or be a solution and light to that existing pain.

Yesterday I posted a tweet reply to Alexandria Orcasio Cortez(AOC) that racked up quite a lot of impressions and likes, I was replying to her brilliant response to the cost of Insulin in the US which is $1000 per month WITH insurance, AOC went on to query further on to define how stock buybacks, where companies buy their own stock to push up stock value in turn affects the price of pharmaceuticals and how legislating against this would solve this horrendous inequality problem where the poor can’t afford basic health care, also AOC mentioned how her own struggle looking after her father before he died from a rare form of lung cancer, please watch here.

Solutions are needed not just the protest and the fight, such as the UN Global goals to combat Climate Crisis, hence the Worlds Largest Solar Thermal plant, check out my Weekend Empathy Tweets Moment on Twitter, click here.

Australian Indigenous recognition and improving the poverty gap has always been a political issue for as long as I have been born, I can just remember as a kid when Prime Minister Gough Whitlam pours soil into hand of traditional landowner Vincent Lingiari, Northern Territory’ 1975 Click here. Solutions such as Treaty and National Learning of Indigenous languages cannot be understated as a good step forward, click here to find more info, Weekend Empathy Tweets Moment, click here.

Homelessness, Housing affordability and Inequality in general due to unsubstantiated inadequate spending on people services, truth in political advertising is the key method to solving these issues , because if the govt is not spending on people services what is it spending the money on, its whole purpose is to create revenue and service for the people, click here for more info, Weekend Empathy Tweets Moment, click here.

Do you believe in placing out a Welcome Mat to those in need?

Welcome Mat Blog

I most certainly believe in placing out a welcome mat for people such as refugees, people fleeing violence oppression and victims of inequality such as the homeless and even whistle-blowers who expose a governments wrong doing and being harassed and bullied by an authorities’ abuse of power such as Julian Assange and Chelsea Manning to name some good examples.

In traditional media and on some social media funnels these people seem to be demonised or seen as a threat????? Where did we lose such common sense, education and empathy? Every problem has a solution, what we should be doing is focusing and promoting solutions not a political hatred and not using people in despair as political ping pong ball distractions and looks like I am not alone in my thinking.

Since last update I have noticed a huge spotlight being put on refugees, a simple tweet I posted asking people to donate to ARC(Asylum Seeker Resource Centre) received just under 5000 impressions, minutes after it was posted(click here). Alexandria Orcasio-Cortez in my firm opinion a Human Rights Champion put up the argument that on the US Border there are concentration camps under these definitions, that seems to fit correctly. Click here

I have always found in my experience when you have a significant amounts of corruption, you then have a significant amounts of inequality, all of this is driven by a certain economic interest, people who want to use govt money for other things than building a community. Julian Assange founder of Wikileaks uncovered huge amount of political corruption on both sides, a good example is how the US is applying jurisdiction to other countries and now he is slowly being precipitated against and bullied. Click here

In Australia we are starting to see similar examples such as the AFP(Australian Federal Police) raids on a political journalist Annika Methurst and the ABC – Click Here  In Queensland we have the Qld govt more or less approving a ridiculous thermal coal mine Adani(see previous blogs) instead of adequate funding for troubled youth and as a result we have kids in watch house(click here)

We need more empathy in our world, along with welcome mats and less BS as the March for our Lives teenagers rightfully call it.
